Gutter Cleaning in Coventry

Clearing a gutter is ten minutes of work. The value is in someone looking at the run properly while they are up there, because that is where next winter's problem is already visible.

In short

Gutter cleaning in Coventry involves clearing debris, moss and silt from the gutter run, rodding and flushing the downpipes and outlets, and checking the condition of the brackets, joints and fascia while access is in place. Once a year suits most properties; twice is sensible where there are trees nearby or a mossy roof shedding into the gutters.

Key takeaways
  • Once a year for most houses, twice where there are overhanging trees or a mossy roof.
  • Autumn, after the leaves have come down, is the most useful time to do it.
  • Flushing afterwards is what proves the downpipe and the underground connection are actually clear.
  • Please do not do it off a ladder on your own. Falls from ladders are the commonest serious home-maintenance injury.
  • The real benefit is someone reporting what they saw - a sagging bracket found now is a cheap fix.
What we cover

The work itself, in plain terms

Clearing the run

Leaves, moss, silt and nesting debris removed by hand or vacuum rather than flushed down to block the downpipe.

Rodding & flushing

Outlets and downpipes rodded and then flushed through, which is the only way to confirm they run clear.

Condition check

Brackets, joints, falls, fascia and the roof edge looked at and reported, with photographs of anything that needs attention.

Hard-to-reach runs

Rear elevations, conservatory surrounds and extensions reached safely rather than skipped.

Moss from the roof edge

Moss shedding off the roof is the usual reason gutters silt up - we clear the lower courses and the valley heads too.

Annual arrangement

A yearly or twice-yearly visit so it happens before the autumn rather than after the overflow.

Who it is for

Built around how you own the property

Homeowners

The job you know needs doing and should not be doing off a ladder yourself.

Landlords & agents

Scheduled clearance across a portfolio, with a short report per property.

Tree-lined streets

Properties with overhanging trees, where annual clearance is not enough.

What we are usually called out to

The jobs that start with a phone call

  • 01

Gutters overflowing in every heavy shower, with plants visibly growing out of them.

  • 02

A downpipe that gurgles and backs up, because the blockage is at the outlet or below ground.

  • 03

Water running down the wall and a green stain spreading on the brickwork beneath.

  • 04

Silt and moss filling the gutter after a year of a mossy roof shedding into it.

  • 05

A gutter cleaned by flushing debris down the pipe, which simply moved the blockage.

  • 06

Damp inside a wall that turns out to be a gutter nobody has looked at in ten years.

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Once a year suits most houses, ideally in late autumn once the leaves are down. Twice a year if you have overhanging trees, conifers nearby, or a roof with a lot of moss shedding into the gutters. If yours overflow before a year is up, that is a sign the run is undersized or has no fall, not just that it needs cleaning more often.

Will you check the gutters as well as clear them?

Yes, and that is most of the value. While we are up there we look at the brackets, the joints, the falls and the fascia, and we tell you - with photographs - about anything heading for trouble. A loose bracket found in October is a ten-minute job; the same bracket in February is a sagging run and a damp wall.

Can I not just do it myself?

You can, and plenty of people do, but ladder falls are the most common serious injury in home maintenance and gutters are the most common reason people are up a ladder. If you are going to, work off a stable base with someone else there, never lean the ladder on the gutter itself, and do not stretch sideways.

Do you flush the downpipes?

Yes. Clearing the gutter without checking the downpipe runs is half a job - debris often moves into the outlet and sits there. We rod and flush through so we can see water running away freely, and if it backs up we tell you where the restriction is.

What if you find the gutter is damaged?

We photograph it and tell you, with a price for the repair, and you decide. A clearance visit is not a sales call - plenty of the time the answer is that everything is fine for another year, and we will happily say that.

Do you clear conservatory and extension gutters?

Yes, including the awkward runs behind and above conservatory roofs, which are the ones most often skipped and which cause the most annoying leaks. They need care rather than weight on the conservatory roof.
