House Rewiring in Coventry
A rewire is disruptive and then invisible, which is exactly why it is worth doing properly. Done once, with the right circuits and the right protection, you should not have to think about it again.

A house rewire in Coventry replaces the cabling, accessories and consumer unit throughout a property, with new circuits sized and protected to current standards and main and supplementary bonding brought up to date. On a typical three-bedroom house it takes roughly five to ten working days across first fix and second fix, plus making good. You receive the test results and certification for the installation on completion.
- A rewire is two stages: first fix with the walls and floors open, second fix once plastering is done.
- Rubber or fabric-insulated cable, or a rewireable fuse board, means the installation is old enough to need assessing.
- A rewire means chasing walls and lifting floors, so plan plastering and decorating around it, not before it.
- You should receive full test results and certification for the installation - keep them, a buyer's solicitor will ask.
- A partial rewire is a legitimate answer where only some circuits are at end of life, and it costs far less.
The work itself, in plain terms
Full rewires
Every circuit replaced: ring finals, lighting, cooker, shower and outbuilding supplies, in new cable with accessories to match.
Partial rewires
Where only some circuits have failed or are at end of life. We will tell you honestly when a partial is enough rather than selling a whole house.
Consumer unit & protection
A new board with RCD or RCBO protection per circuit, so one fault no longer takes out half the house, in a non-combustible enclosure.
First fix
Chasing walls, lifting floors, running cable and fitting back boxes while everything is open - the stage that decides how tidy the finished job is.
Second fix & making good
Accessories fitted, the board connected and energised, and the chases and lifted boards made good so you are not left with the plastering.
Testing & certification
The installation is tested and you get the results and the certificate, plus a schedule of what is on which circuit.
Built around how you own the property
Homeowners
A rewire with a programme you can plan around, and the certification filed where you can find it in ten years.
Landlords
Installations brought up to a standard that will pass an EICR, rather than patched to get through the next inspection.
Renovation projects
First fix timed to the rest of the build, so the electrics are in before the plasterer arrives rather than after.
The jobs that start with a phone call
- 01
A fuse board with rewireable fuses and no RCD protection at all.
- 02
Rubber or fabric-insulated cable found in the loft, which is well past its service life and goes brittle.
- 03
Sockets added over the years off existing circuits, so a ring final is now feeding far more than it was designed for.
- 04
Two sockets in a whole bedroom and extension leads running under the carpet.
- 05
An EICR that has come back unsatisfactory with multiple C2 codes across several circuits.
- 06
A part-finished rewire left by somebody else, with no certificate and no record of what is on which circuit.
What moves the price
A rewire is quoted after a survey - we need to see the board, the existing cable, the loft and the floors before we can price it. The quote covers materials, labour, the board, testing, certification and making good. What moves the price:
Size and number of circuits
Bedrooms, bathrooms, a cooker, a shower, outbuildings and garden supplies all add circuits.
Full or partial
Where some circuits are sound and recently installed, rewiring only what needs it is both cheaper and sensible.
Access to floors and walls
Solid floors, laminate you want to keep, and plastered-over chases all make cable runs slower.
Occupied or empty
An empty house is quicker and cheaper to rewire than one being lived in room by room.
Accessories specified
Standard white, brushed steel, USB outlets and dimmers all sit at different prices.
Making good
How far we take the plastering and decorating back towards finished.

Speak to us today0786 5778332How do I know if my house needs rewiring?
The strongest signs are a rewireable fuse board with no RCD, rubber or fabric-insulated cable, very few sockets, and an EICR with multiple C2 codes. Age alone is not conclusive - a 1980s installation in good condition may need only a new board. A survey and test will tell you rather than a guess.
How long does a rewire take and can I stay in the house?
Roughly five to ten working days on a typical three-bedroom house, split between first fix and second fix with plastering in between. You can stay, and we work room by room with power maintained where possible, but it is dusty and disruptive - most people who can move out for the first-fix week are glad they did.
Will you make good the walls and floors afterwards?
Yes, and the extent is spelled out in the quote so there are no surprises. Chases are filled and floors relaid; full re-skimming and decoration can be included if you want it, and we will say which rooms need it.
What certification do I get?
Full test results for the installation and the appropriate certificate on completion, plus a schedule showing what is on each circuit. Keep it with the house paperwork - it gets asked for when you sell, remortgage or have an EICR done.
Can you rewire just part of the house?
Yes, and often that is the right answer - for example where a kitchen extension was wired recently but the original 1960s lighting circuits have not been touched. We will tell you which circuits genuinely need replacing instead of quoting the whole house by default.
Do I need to be there while you work?
Not for the whole job, but we will need access and we will need to isolate the supply at points. We agree the programme with you in advance, including when the power will be off and for roughly how long.
