Lighting Installation in Coventry
Lighting is the cheapest thing that changes how a room feels. It is also the thing most often done with one pendant in the middle of the ceiling and nothing else.

Lighting installation in Coventry covers downlights and ceiling lighting, LED upgrades, under-cabinet and feature lighting, and outdoor, security and garden lighting. Downlights cut into a ceiling must be fire-rated where they breach a fire-separating ceiling, and outdoor fittings and garden circuits need the right IP rating and protection. Work is tested and certified on completion.
- Downlights cut through a fire-separating ceiling must be fire-rated fittings, not just any LED.
- Layered lighting - ceiling, task, accent - transforms a room far more than a brighter bulb does.
- Outdoor fittings need an IP rating suited to where they are, and garden circuits need proper protection.
- Dimming problems are usually a mismatch between the dimmer and the LED driver, not a faulty lamp.
- Retrofitting lighting into a finished ceiling is possible, but it is much cheaper while the plaster is off.
The work itself, in plain terms
Downlights & ceiling lighting
Set out properly rather than evenly spaced for its own sake, with fire-rated fittings where the ceiling requires them and insulation treated correctly above.
LED upgrades
Old halogen and fluorescent fittings replaced with LED, including the dimmers and drivers that make them behave rather than flicker.
Kitchen & task lighting
Under-cabinet, plinth and island lighting, switched where you actually use it rather than by the door.
Outdoor & security lighting
Wall lights, floodlights, PIR sensors and dusk-to-dawn controls, in fittings rated for the position they are in.
Garden & driveway lighting
Buried cable routed and protected properly, with the correct circuit protection - the thing most commonly got wrong on garden lighting.
Switching & controls
Two-way and multi-way switching, dimming, and smart controls set up and explained rather than left for you to work out.
Built around how you own the property
Homeowners
Lighting that suits how you use each room, installed tidily and switched where it makes sense.
Landlords
Robust, efficient LED fittings that cut running costs and callouts, and outdoor lighting that improves security.
Commercial & retail
Shop, office and unit lighting including emergency lighting, upgraded to LED with the certification you need.
The jobs that start with a phone call
- 01
One pendant in the centre of the ceiling and dark corners everywhere else.
- 02
Downlights that buzz or flicker when dimmed, because the dimmer and the driver were never matched.
- 03
Non-fire-rated downlights cut into a ceiling that separates floors - a finding on any EICR.
- 04
Insulation packed directly over downlights in the loft, which is a genuine overheating risk.
- 05
A garden light fed on buried flex with no protection, which fails the first wet winter.
- 06
A security light that triggers on every passing cat and lights up the neighbour's bedroom.

Speak to us today0786 5778332Can you fit downlights in a finished ceiling?
Yes - cutting in, routing the cable from above and making good is normal work, and we set them out from below so they land where they should rather than where the joists happen to allow. It is more involved than doing it with the plaster off, which is reflected in the price.
Why do my LED downlights flicker when dimmed?
Almost always because the dimmer is not compatible with the driver. Trailing-edge dimmers rated for LED loads, matched to the fittings, solve it. Replacing the lamps repeatedly does not, and that is usually what has already been tried.
Do downlights need to be fire-rated?
Where they are cut into a ceiling that provides fire separation between floors, yes - the fitting has to restore the protection the ceiling gave. In a single-storey or non-separating ceiling the requirement differs. We will tell you which applies to yours, and we fit fire-rated as standard where there is any doubt.
Can I have lighting in the garden?
Yes, and it makes more difference to a garden than almost anything else. It needs a correctly protected circuit, cable buried and protected to the right depth, and fittings with an IP rating suited to their position. Done properly it lasts; done with flex and a plastic connector it fails by February.
Will a security light put my electricity bill up?
Barely, with LED floodlights and a PIR sensor - they draw very little and only run when triggered. Dusk-to-dawn lighting running all night costs more, so we will talk through which suits what you are trying to achieve.
Can you install smart lighting?
Yes, and we will set it up and show you how it works rather than leaving you with an app and a shrug. We will also be honest about where smart controls genuinely help and where a well-placed second switch does the same job for a fraction of the cost.
