Silicone Render in Coventry

The appeal of silicone render is simple: the colour is through the material, so there is nothing to repaint, and it sheds water while still letting the wall breathe.

In short

Silicone render in Coventry is a thin-coat system applied over a reinforced basecoat: the wall is prepared, a basecoat is applied with alkali-resistant mesh embedded in it, beads are fitted at edges and openings, then the through-coloured silicone topcoat is applied and textured. The colour runs through the material so it never needs painting, and the finish is water-repellent while remaining vapour-permeable.

Key takeaways
  • Through-coloured, so there is no painting now and no repainting later.
  • Water-repellent but still breathable, which matters a great deal on a solid-wall house.
  • The mesh in the basecoat is what stops cracking - it is not optional and it is where cheap jobs cut.
  • Beads at every edge, sill and opening are what make the finish look crisp rather than homemade.
  • It needs the right weather to apply and cure. A render applied in the wrong conditions will show it.
What we cover

The work itself, in plain terms

Preparation

Existing surface assessed and prepared, loose material removed, and the substrate primed so the basecoat bonds rather than sits on it.

Meshed basecoat

Basecoat applied with alkali-resistant mesh fully embedded, which is what distributes movement and prevents cracking.

Beads & detailing

Corner, stop and bellcast beads at edges, reveals and sills, so every junction is straight and water is thrown clear.

Silicone topcoat

Through-coloured topcoat applied and textured to the chosen grain, water-repellent and vapour-permeable.

Full elevations & whole houses

Single elevations, extensions or whole properties, with the detailing carried consistently round corners and features.

Making good around openings

Window and door reveals, sills, drips and roofline junctions finished so water is directed away from the wall.

Who it is for

Built around how you own the property

Homeowners

A finish that transforms the front of a house and then needs no repainting for years.

Pebbledash & tired render

Houses with dated pebbledash or painted render where the maintenance has become annual.

Landlords

An external finish that stops being a recurring decorating cost.

What we are usually called out to

The jobs that start with a phone call

  • 01

Painted render that needs redoing every few years and is starting to flake and blister.

  • 02

Cracking that reappears after each repaint, because the underlying render has no reinforcement.

  • 03

A render applied with no beads, so the edges are wavy and the reveals look thick and clumsy.

  • 04

A previous cement render on a solid wall that has trapped moisture and is now blowing off in sheets.

  • 05

Render carried right down to the ground with no bellcast, wicking moisture up into the wall.

  • 06

A thin-coat system applied in frost or driving rain, which cures badly and shows patchy for ever.

Costs

What moves the price

Rendering is quoted after a site visit, because the condition of what is already on the wall is the main variable - and whether it has to come off changes the job substantially. What moves the price:

Area and number of elevations

Square metreage, plus the corners, reveals and features that add detailing time.

What is on the wall now

Bare masonry, sound render, painted render or pebbledash - each needs different preparation.

Scaffolding

Height, access and how long the scaffold has to stand. On a whole house this is a real share of the cost.

Detailing

The number of windows, doors, sills and junctions, because each one is beads and careful work.

Substrate repairs

Cracks, spalled brick and failed areas put right before any render goes on.

Colour and grain

Standard colours and textures versus specials, which carry a premium.

Does silicone render need painting?

No, and that is the main reason people choose it. The colour is dispersed through the topcoat rather than applied to the surface, so there is no paint film to blister, flake or fade off. It can be repainted later if you want to change colour, but it does not need it as maintenance.

Is it breathable?

Yes - it is water-repellent from the outside while remaining vapour-permeable, so moisture inside the wall can still evaporate out. That matters most on older solid-wall houses, where a sealed cement render traps moisture in the wall and the brickwork takes the damage instead.

Can it go straight over my pebbledash?

Sometimes, if the pebbledash is sound, well bonded and not too proud - it can be dubbed out and worked over. Often it is better removed, because rendering over a failing surface simply transfers the problem to the new finish. We tap-test it and tell you which situation you have.

Will it crack?

A thin-coat system with mesh properly embedded in the basecoat is very resistant to cracking, because the mesh spreads any movement. Cracking in modern render is nearly always either missing or badly lapped mesh, or movement in the substrate that was never addressed first.

How long does it take?

A whole house is typically one to two weeks of application plus scaffolding time, and each coat needs its curing time before the next. Weather matters: it cannot be applied in frost or heavy rain, and forcing it produces a finish you will look at for twenty years.

What colours can I have?

A wide standard range, with specials available at a premium. We would suggest looking at a sample on the actual wall rather than a card indoors - render colour reads very differently at full scale and in daylight, and it is a decision you live with for a long time.
